RAM 1500 vs Chevy Silverado

Ram 1500 takes on the Competition

In Utah when drivers are shopping for a truck that's good for work or play they turn to Ram, and when they're looking for the best selection and variety of trucks around, they know they can count on Layton Hills Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.

Ram 1500

The Ram 1500 is a classic truck built for luxury and work. Whether you need it on the weekend for family trips or for work, this useful yet beautiful truck can get it done. It comes available in a whopping nine trim levels:

  • The Tradesman
  • The RAM 1500 Express
  • The Big Horn
  • The Rebel
  • The Sport
  • The Night
  • The Laramie
  • The Laramie Longhorn
  • The Limited

2017 marked a big change for the Ram 1500, as the first year it's been offered without an optional six-speed automatic transmission. Every truck in the lineup now comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Ram 1500 vs. Chevy Silverado 1500

We know we're not the only ones vying for your car-buying dollars, and we know the Ram 1500 isn't the only truck clambering for your attention. To make the decision process a little easier on you, we've done a little head-to-head comparison for you. We've researched both the Ram 1500 and its competition, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and put together a list of traits on both.

In Motion

While both trucks have similar engine power, depending on the model you choose, the Ram 1500 has one unique mechanical trait that the Chevy is missing - a rear spring coil suspension. With this Ram-specific characteristic the ride in your pickup truck is smooth and easy whether you're riding with the bed fully loaded or empty.

Another Ram truck exclusive technology that gives you a more comfortable ride is the optional self-leveling air suspension.

This suspension system, more commonly found in luxury brand cars, gives Ram trucks the nicest ride on the road. Especially for a truck of this size and ability. The suspension helps drivers with load levelling and ride control and keeps the Ram 1500 safe and stable on the road.

Finally, as we mentioned before, the 2017 Ram 1500 comes standard across all trim levels with an eight-speed automatic transmission. In the Chevy Silverado, drivers would need to move all the way up to the top trim levels to get this sort of power.

On the Inside

Both vehicles come in three different available body sizes. Depending on what you choose, the interior space changes, as does the number of seats and passenger carrying capabilities:

  • A four-door full-sized cab
  • A two-door regular-sized cab
  • A quad cab with backseat passenger space

Both the Chevy Silverado and the Ram 1500 also come available convenient entertainment/information systems to help drivers navigate and stay safely connected. Plus, both trucks come with an available Wi-Fi hotspot capability.

But, beyond that, we've found that on the Ram 1500 the quality and workmanship is top-notch and hard to beat, across all levels.

From the base model Ram 1500 all the way up to the top trims, the interiors are constructed using high-quality fabrics and accents, and all feel expertly crafted.

From the Outside

From the outside, the Ram 1500 comes in a much larger available color palette. Depending on the trim level you choose, the Ram 1500 is available in nearly three times the number of paint colors as the Chevy Silverado.
